WAN Requirements
  • 2 Layer hierarchical model
  • 3 Regional Hube
  • District Office/Data Center
  • Service Center
  • Shaw Butte Elementary School
  • Only TCP/IP and Novell IPX for networking protocols
  • Frame Relay WAN link for internet access and outside network connections
LAN Requirements
  • 2 LAN segments at each school
  • Transport speeds will be Ethernet 10Base-T, 100 Base-TX, and 100Base-FX.
  • Cat 5 Unshielded Twisted Pair(UTP) for horizontal cabling at 100 Mbps
  • Cat 5 UTP or Fiber Optic Multi Mode cable for vertical cabling
  • Must comply with TIA/EIA-568-A
  • One LAN for student use
  • Main Distribution Facility room will be the central point and the location for the Point of Presence
  • Intermediate Distribution Facitlity rooms must be connected in a star/extended star topology
  • Labs must support 24 workstations with four Cat-5 UTP runs for data.
  • One cable for teacher workstations
  • Must have 100 Mbps bandwidth capacity
  • Each lab will have

Servers and Functions
  • File servers should be enterprise or workgroup
  • Network should have DNS and e-mail delivery
  • One host will have DNS and e-mail services that maintain a directory for all staff and student hosts
Administrative Server
  • Will have student tracking, attendance, grading, etc.
  • Will use TCP/IP for layer 3 and layer 4 protocol
  • Made available to teacher and staff only
Library Server
  • Runs TCP/IP
  • Made available to all hosts
Application Server
  • Runs TCP/IP
  • Made available to all hosts
Address and Network Management
  • Naming convention scheme for all hosts, servers, and devices
  • Master network management host at District Office has complete rights
